The Sahara Power Group and South Sudan’s Ministry of Energy and Dams signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the development of its power sector.
The development, which is part of the Sahara Power Group’s Light Up Africa initiative, will include generation, transmission and distribution spaces.
The MoU will facilitate the development the South Sudanese power sector infrastructure and see Sahara Power expand its East African operations.
Sahara Power Group’s managing director, Kola Adesina, said: “We consider this to be another landmark and major milestone in our quest to facilitate fast paced development in Africa through seamless power supply.”
Adding that: “We are already working with the Republic of South Sudan to develop a dedicated crude oil processing plant to guarantee steady and adequate supplies to the power plants as and when needed. We believe this sort of end-to-end approach is necessary to make electricity a readily available resource to the people of South Sudan.”
Sahara and the Ministry will collaborate to develop the transmission backbone infrastructure, which include the establishment of the grid code. The collaboration will also include the environmental impact study.
The project is expected to commence in 2019.
Minister of Energy and Dams, Hon. Dr. Dhieu Mathok Diing Wol will be a keynote speaker at South Sudan Oil & Power 2018, which will take place on November 21-22 at the Crown Hotel in Juba.
