A new announcement by Ivory Coast’s Ministry of Mines and Energy has shown a 14% increase in gold production in 2022 compared to the previous year, reaching a record high of approximately 48 tons.

In an attempt to diversify the West African country’s economy, the Ministry has sought to develop Ivory Coast’s gold mining sector, with production expected to reach 50 tons this year following increased production at mining exploration company Tietto Minerals’ Abujar gold project and Canadian precious metals mining company, Fortuna’s, Séguela gold project.

Meanwhile, multinational mining company Endeavour Mining launched the construction of its Lafigué gold mine project in Ivory Coast in October 2022, and will produce an average of 203,000 ounces of gold per year with production expected to begin in 2024.
