Equatorial Guinea’s Minister of Mines and Hydrocarbons, Gabriel Obiang Lima, has announced that the country will commence its licensing round for oil, gas and mining acreage in its onshore and ultra-deep waters this year.
“I have decided to choose the city of Abuja to officially announce that in 2019 we are going to launch our license round. This license round is special because it is not only a petroleum license but a mining license round,” the Minister said during the Nigeria International Petroleum Summit (NIPS), which is currently taking place in Abuja.
He added that details of the licensing round would be made available during the Association of Petroleum Producers Organization (APPO) Cape VII Congress and Exhibition organized by Africa Oil & Power in Malabo on 2-5 April.
In response to the announcement, Nigeria’s Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Dr Emmanuel Ibe Kachikwu, encouraged Nigerian independent exploration and production companies to participate in the round and expand their reach.
